Maries

On the west side of Thassos, the Maries and the Skala Maries, personify the concept of peace and tranquility on one hand and that of pure hospitality on the other. Indicative of their hospitality is the well-known bean soup feast organized by locals in the area of Genna. Contact with nature is the main activity of the residents through stockbreeding, beekeeping and olive harvesting.

In recent years, however, the residents of Skala Maries began working in the tourism sector by creating well-looked after lodgings for every visitor. The picturesque harbor with the traditional ouzo bars and taverns will offer the chance to groups to have fun by enjoying traditional ouzo delis and local tsipouro snaps. The deep blue waters of Atspa (or Aspa) beach will reward the most demanding visitor. It is worth visiting the Monastery of the Assumption and to worship the miraculous icon of Virgin Mary. Finally, the artificial lake in the village attracts every lover of nature.

Kallirachi

The “Bad Rachi (ridge)”, seems not to have satisfied its residents, so they abandoned it and built it on the slopes of a hill known today as Kallirachi. Overlooking the city of Kavala, the village consists of the mountainous part, and the Skala, with the wonderful beach. In the mountains, apart from the traditional houses and the small alleys, one can find the Folklore museum, housed in a preserved building of 1880, which narrates through its exhibits the history of the village.

At the waterfront…around the port and along the sea, dominates the “tourist” part of the village. Whatever one chooses, however, will certainly be enchanted, since Kallirachi is one of the most picturesque villages of the island. If you choose the transport of the island, do not be surprised when the bus stops in Kallirachi village at Klisma! This is about a location of the village that is characterized by natural beauty and traditional seafood restaurants.

Kazaviti

Kazaviti is one of the most beautiful mountainous villages of Thassos. Located very close to Prinos is suitable for tourism throughout the year, as it will travel each visitor to nature and back in time. The stone and wood dominate the buildings of the village and in combination with the rich vegetation of oaks, platanus and chestnut trees give a different aspect of Thassos. This aspect of Thassos hasn't been touched by time and the traditional coffee shop in the village certifies that, the best possible way.

Do not think however that time has stopped forever in this village, as young people with enthusiasm and, above all, love for tradition gave another impetus at Kazaviti by creating taverns offering rich meat dishes as well as rented lodgings for every taste!
