Most houses and churches in Thassos were built with the traditional macedonian style. You will see beautiful houses with walls made from crude pieces of limestone and roofs made from wood and finely chiseled stones. Here wood plays a central role in the construction of a house,as it replaces iron. This can be seen in the wooden balconies and the wooden arched main doors of many houses, found in traditional towns such as Kazaviti and Theologos. Almost every house is surrounded with a fenced yard that is usually filled with lovely flowers. The macedonian influences in architecture is mixed with local elements that are characteristic to each house, according to the needs and desires of its inhabitants. Thus, besides the traditional architecture that characterises Thasos, every village and town has developed a unique style.
